I'm a community builder and design engineer based in Chennai and Bengaluru, India, travelling between the two for work, personal life, and the meetups I run. Over the past 4+ years, I've organized 50+ community meetups and assisted with 50+ more across communities, including Friends of Figma Chennai, Notion Chennai, and Chennai.Design.
What started as volunteering at other people's events turned into building and running some of Chennai's most active design and tech communities. This playbook is the result of everything I've learned along the way, the wins, the mistakes, and the lessons that only come from doing the work.
When I'm not organizing meetups, I work at the intersection of design, product, and community, always looking for ways to help people connect, learn, and build together.

I've been watching a lot of communities come up lately, and with everything changing around AI and the way we work, it's genuinely the best time to start building. But I've also seen people make the same mistakes I made, or give up because they didn't know what to expect.
This playbook exists because somebody gave me this knowledge. I reached out to fellow community builders, asked questions, made mistakes, and learned by doing. If I can document all of that and share it openly, maybe you won't have to start from scratch.

One thing to keep in mind: Everything in here is what worked for me and the communities I've been part of. It's not the only way to do this, it's just one way that's been tested. Your city, your audience, your niche will have its own quirks. Take what resonates, skip what doesn't, and build your own version of this.
